Claude de Cuba
Founder
At Antillean Coast you will find a wide range of artisanal hot sauces, BBQ sauces, hot agave and more. Inspired by the flavors of the Netherlands Antilles, all products are made in Amsterdam. The range has now grown to more than ten different products.
About the Maker
Founder Claude is a dreamer who always wanted to have his own business. He was born in Aruba, moved to Utrecht for his studies and eventually ended up in Amsterdam. After graduating, he started a passion project that became Antillean Coast, an ode to the flavors and quality of the food he grew up with.
The flavors and products from the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao) are hardly represented on the Dutch market, although there is demand for them. You see many influences from Surinamese, Javanese, Japanese and Chinese cuisines, but almost never Antillean food – and according to Claude there is no good reason for that. He decided to change that.
Production process & sustainability
“The production process is very simple,” says Claude. “All ingredients are prepared in a large cooking kettle, after which they are pureed into sauce with a hand blender. The focus is on the quality and the correct ratio of the ingredients. The sauces are then into bottle by hand.”
Antillean Coast products are of the same quality as what you would get on the islands, with the same authentic taste sensations. Cheaper, substitute ingredients are not used; no concessions are made to the taste.
Tastes
Antillean Coast sauces are available in three flavors:
- Papaya Hot Sauce – The classic and most famous hot sauce of the ABC Islands.
- Pineapple Rum BBQ Sauce – An Aruban version of BBQ sauce, made with real pineapple rum.
- Chipotle Hot Agave – A delicious agave syrup that goes perfectly with chicken wings, pizza, pancakes or any dish that needs a sweet and spicy kick.
With Antillean Coast, Claude brings a piece of the Antillean taste experience to the Netherlands – authentic, traditional and with a passion for quality.
