Dem Good Chai combines the age-old tradition of chai with modern Western technology and production processes, specially designed for the catering industry. Their mission? To tell the story of chai in a unique way with a chai concentrate in a bottle, making both the culture and the taste accessible.
About the Maker
During his time in India, Bob learned the art of making authentic chai from the locals. “For me, chai is much more than a drink; it stands for connection, warmth and a rich culture.” Bob chose to work with local Indian suppliers to preserve and share that authentic essence. What started as a personal passion for chai grew into a company he proudly calls ‘Dem Good Chai’.
The Production process
The spices and black tea from Assam are delivered to the Amsterdam Soft Drink Factory (AFF). There, extracts are made using ultrasound waves. This allows water to be boiled at 40 degrees, thus preserving all the qualities of the raw materials. These extracts form the basis for a chai concentrate. This is filled at AFF, the label is placed around it and then it is sent in boxes to the distribution channels.
Sustainability
Beautifully said by Bob: “The last thing I would want to do is window dressing and make it all more beautiful than it is. The fact is: spices come from parts of the world and we are a company that makes products. You may wonder: does the world needs an additional company? So are we sustainable? I’m not sure. What I can say for sure is that we take people, animals and the planet into account.”
All ingredients of Dem Good Chai are organic and unsprayed. They work with extracts, which means that less of a raw material needs to be used to make more. They use glass bottles because glass can be recycled infinitely. They work directly with a local tea supplier from North India without a middleman, so that everyone gets the best and fair price. And shipping is done as much as possible with bicycle couriers and/or electric vehicles. Finally, they support medical treatments in a local region in India with every bottle of chai sold.
