Robin van Rossum
Owner
Noest gives the trees of Utrecht city a second life. They make sustainable gifts, personalized business gifts and souvenirs from these trees. Each article has its own story and it shows! Noest engraves the tree species, the street in which the tree was located and the year of planting and felling on all products. Pure city wood!
About the Maker
Owner Robin loves Utrecht! A background as a graphic designer and two creative hands prove to be a good combination for a new life as a woodworker. “Utrecht is my city. I find it an honor to tell its stories through my city wood products.” Strengthened by his experience as a volunteer at the Surf Project (surfing lessons for children with Down syndrome, ADHD and autism), Robin is committed to intensive cooperation with people who are at a distance from the labor market.
Production Process & Sustainbility
In Utrecht, trees are cut down for various reasons. For example, to free up space for a new residential area or in case of tree disease. Many of these trees disappear into the chipper. What a waste! Noest makes beautiful products from these leftovers. For personalised souvenirs and gifts, we collaborate with the Tafelboom Foundation, which carefully saws and dries the trees. And that is painstaking work! The natural drying process can take two to three years. With craftsmanship, Noest gives this wood a well-deserved second life.
For the production of the drinks boards and card holders, Noest works closely with Reinaerde Remake Meubel, a workshop for people with mild intellectual disabilities. On request, some items can also be made from Amsterdam city wood.
