About the maker
Anouk is the proud founder of Nyumba – born from her passion for craftsmanship and creating unique products. At the heart of her work is the idea of home. “I believe home is more than just a physical space; it’s a place where you feel happy, come together with loved ones, and are surrounded by positive energy.” Over time, Anouk fell in love with the process of making ceramics. Every piece that leaves her studio is made by hand with love. That makes each item truly one of a kind.

Production process & sustainability
All production takes place in Anouk’s home studio, where everything is crafted by hand. Each piece starts with forming the right base. Then it’s shaped and refined. Before the clay can be fired, it must dry completely, which takes about a week. Then comes the first firing. After cooling, the items are glazed and patterns are applied. Each color consists of three layers. Next, the pieces are fired a second time. Here is where the magic happens! The glaze fuses with the clay and reveals its true color and character after the firing.

All Nyumba products are handmade, without mass production or waste. Nothing is thrown away and production imperfections are reused. “We use as many sustainable materials as possible, and solar energy helps us keep the production process as responsible as we can. Moreover, it’s our mission to inspire people to buy more consciously.”
