About the Maker
After studying electrical engineering and pursuing a career in ICT, Louis felt the need to not only work on the ‘inside’ of products (hardware and software) but also design their ‘outside’. “Especially in lighting, the combination of modern (LED) technology and materials allows for surprising and beautiful creations. By incorporating historical materials with a story, the lighting gains an extra dimension. This ultimately led to my own product and a separate company: SemperNovum!”
Production Process
The inspiration for each lamp design comes from the shape and history of a historical material, new technologies (such as 3D printing), or innovative materials. After various sketches, Louis develops the chosen lamp design in technical detail. He collaborates with small-scale, artisanal companies for production. The required electronics and control software are developed in-house. Finally, the lamps are assembled, incorporating any specific customer requests. It is even possible to supply a unique personal material as the base of a lamp – creating a custom-made SemperNovum piece!
Sustainability
SemperNovum exclusively uses recyclable and sustainable materials that can be easily disassembled and separated. All lamps are also equipped with energy-efficient LED lighting.
