Binthout makes handcrafted wooden products and corporate gifts from pure, solid Dutch timber. From wooden lamps and shelves to personalised gifts – everything is produced locally and socially in the Netherlands.
About the makers
Social entrepreneurs Karst Klein and Cor Wobma founded Binthout in 2013 out of their love for wood, design and people. At Binthout, it is not just about beautiful products; it is also about giving people a meaningful place in the labour market. The company is now led by Cor and has been established as a Steward Owned foundation, ensuring both the business and its social mission are future-proof.

Production process
Binthout works with local timber from Dutch forests. Trees felled by Staatsbosbeheer for forest management go to the sawmill and drying facility before arriving at Binthout. In the workshop, employees and participants process the wood by hand into new products, giving every piece of wood a new story. “Every piece of wood we use has already had a life. It carried, supported and grew, and with us it gets an even more beautiful story.”

Sustainability
The products are made from demonstrably sustainable timber: FSCĀ®-certified wood, local urban timber or FSCĀ® Recycled wood. By processing local wood locally and making products by hand, Binthout keeps the supply chain short and the raw material in use for as long as possible. At the same time, the social production model ensures that people who struggle to access the labour market are given a chance.
