Quirin van Engelshoven
Founder
Frites uit Zuyd makes fresh fries for the catering industry and retail. They use the best potatoes from Dutch soil, prepare original Zuydelijk and deliver fresh every day.
About the Maker
Quirin van Engelshoven – born and raised in Maastricht – opened his ‘friterie’ Frites from Zuyd on the Amsterdam Ceintuurbaan in 2014. Restaurants in the area asked for the fresh pre-fried fries immediately after the opening. Quirin therefore decided in 2015 to focus entirely on preparing fries for the catering industry and started a traditional fries factory. Nowadays, as a family business, Frites uit Zuyd stands for innovation and sustainability, without losing the focus on quality and taste. The fries are now also available at home, including through Jumbo and Gorillas.
Production Process & Sustainability
Frites uit Zuyd grows potatoes purely for taste, in an authentic way and with today’s knowledge. They only use natural growth and pesticides. The potatoes are manually sorted when harvested to prevent bruising. They are stored in wooden boxes under optimal conditions and Frites uit Zuyd continuously checks for quality. All this care produces the tastiest potatoes and therefore the tastiest fries.
In 2022, Frites from Zuyd moved to a spacious, new production location in Almere. Considerable innovation has taken place, making the production process largely automated and sustainable. Gas is no longer used and the energy consumed is largely recovered through solar panels. Despite all this innovation and automation, Frites uit Zuyd continues to stick to the traditional preparation method and taste and quality are still carefully monitored.
