About the maker
IKONIC was founded by designer Maurice Doorduyn in 2015, at the time under the name Ikonic Toys. Over the years, the focus has shifted from toys to ‘playful design’. With IKONIC, he is building a distinctive collection in which aesthetics, sustainability and playfulness come together.
Production process & sustainability
In terms of sustainability, IKONIC focuses on design. “Because we are convinced that truly sustainable products are timeless products,” says Maurice. “What is not thrown away does not need to be recycled either. We strive to create design classics that are passed down from generation to generation. We therefore do not work with rapidly changing collections or trend- or fad-driven products.”
Where possible, products are made as close to home as possible. The Bottle Vases, for example, are blown by Klaas Kuiken in Arnhem, and the large trucks and tractors by Floris Hovers are made in Delft. IKONIC has received the Locally Made quality mark for items produced in the Netherlands. These can be found on the Locally Made website.
