Firma Moes is a knife and sharpening shop in De Pijp. The store rightly bears the logo “Als het Knipt of Snijdt Heeft Firma Moes het in Huis” and is stocked with razor-sharp chef’s knives, cheese slicers, pocket knives and scissors and the accessories that go with them.

About the Makers
As the third generation owners of Firma Moes, Jaap and Barbara are extremely familiar with everything the knife world has to offer, and what it does not (yet) have to offer. They were often confronted in the store with the lack of beautiful, affordable knife magnets. The offer was elegant and expensive, taken from a page of Eigen Huis & Interieur, or unattractive and cheap. A combination of cost-effectiveness and beauty was difficult to find. Until the creation of Knifesticks. By taking matters into their own hands and making their own wooden knife magnets, Jaap and Barbara have brought a beautiful and affordable product to the market.

Knifesticks are beautiful, handmade knife magnets that make it easy to store knives and scissors safely and hygienically. They are available in different types of wood, including ash, olive and padouk. If there are special wishes, Knifesticks can also be custom made.

Production Process & Sustainability
Knifesticks are made from FSC-certified wood from Masave (a sustainable company in Zwolle that also makes beautiful cutting boards) in the workshop below the store. Jaap carefully makes recesses in the wood and places strong magnets in them, close enough to the surface so that the knives are held firmly in place without the wood becoming too thin and therefore too vulnerable. He then installs a suspension system on the back of the Knifestick, so that the knife magnet can be attached to the wall without visible screws or brackets. As a finishing touch, he lasers the Knifesticks logo (or a custom logo) into the beam before finishing the wood with oil. The result is a sleek, beautiful wooden strip that is large enough to safely hang six knives or more.
