Lampsterdammertje

An ode to the disappearing Amsterdammertje

Mees Slewe

Product designer

The Amsterdammertje — who doesn’t know it? The iron bollard with the three St. Andrew’s crosses that was long a characteristic part of Amsterdam’s streetscape. Unfortunately, more and more of these iconic posts are disappearing from the city. With the Lampsterdammertje, the icon returns to daily life in the form of an atmospheric lamp! The lamp is fully wireless and runs on a rechargeable battery.

About the makers
Mees Slewe is a product designer who works together with his father Rob within their company Bloom Holland. The Lampsterdammertje is Mees’ first fully self-developed product, from sketch to production.

Production process & sustainability
The lamps are designed in Amsterdam and produced and assembled elsewhere in the Netherlands. They are made from recyclable polyethylene. A version made from locally collected plastic is also in development, aiming to make the design even more sustainable in the future.
