At the Tweede Tuindwarsstraat in the Jordaan there is an attractive goldsmith’s shop with beautiful jewelry and wedding rings. Since 2011, Ellen Philippen and Lotte Porrio have transformed the store into a bright, welcoming space with an open studio at the back. Here they create a wide range of jewelry, from refined to outspoken, and from organic to abstract.

About the Makers
Ellen and Lotte met when they were classmates at the Vocational School for Goldsmithing and Fine Technology in Schoonhoven. Once they completed their training, they gained a lot of experience at various workshops to master the craft. Around the age of thirty they decided that they preferred to develop their own work and after a long brainstorm they started their own studio in 2008. Here they built up and expanded their collection, corporate identity and customer base.

The Oogst collection with only our own work is central, but it is also possible to come by for custom work. Everyone uses their favorite tools and methods to develop jewelry that suits their style. Lotte has a very steady hand and specializes in typesetting and engraving and works in a sleek, graphic style. Ellen mainly makes elegant, floral creations and prefers to use the ‘lost wax’ technique with which she can create beautiful structures and rolling shapes.

Production Process & Sustainability
When developing their own designs, they start with a brainstorming session on a specific theme, after which various ideas, sketches and prototypes unfold. These one-off pieces are presented once a year. Oogst consciously takes sustainability into account with regard to its design and business operations and asks the same of its suppliers. In addition, the jewelry is forged from recycled gold and silver and is of course intended to last a lifetime. In addition, as a sustainable solution, they make many jewelry from the customer’s own gold, also known as ‘urban mined’ gold. This is both good for the environment and emotionally valuable.
