Founder
SOAP7 is a soap maker from Groningen. The soaps, deodorants and body butters are long-lasting, biodegradable and get their scent and color from natural fragrances, herbs and clay.
About the Makers
In 2004, founder Margot lived on a Spanish finca near the Mediterranean coast. She discovered that Spaniards often give used olive oil for frying and baking a second life by saponifying it and using it for cleaning. Margot studied it and started making soap from olive oil herself. Due to the many enthusiastic responses, she decided to continue her business here after her return to the Netherlands in 2006. From her traditional soap factory in Groningen, three people are now working hard on the company: Margot is responsible for the ins and outs of SOAP7, Han is a biochemist and responsible for production and Tom assists with shipments, soap cutting, photography and social media.
Production Process
The soaps are made traditionally using the cold process method, an ancient way of making soap. They create a soap mass from vegetable oils and fats with lye. Natural dyes (such as pink French clay and turmeric) and natural fragrances (essential oils from plants) are added. The soap mass is then poured into molds and after 24 hours a hard soap block has been formed which is cut into small soap blocks. The soaps must then mature for at least a month before they can be used,
Sustainability
The SOAP7 soaps are biodegradable and do not contain synthetic fragrances or dyes. Due to the solid shape of the soaps, no plastic packaging is required; a lot less plastic waste! There is also no need to transport water unnecessarily, as with plastic squeeze bottles. For a number of products, SOAP7 uses cans for packaging that can be recycled. All cutting scraps from the soaps are reprocessed into an extra sustainable soap.
Also nice
SOAP7 is increasingly making soap on behalf of companies. Such as hotels, or companies that ask if SOAP7 can process their raw material into a special soap. Interested? Please contact them.
