They have been through storms, have traveled to town and country and are ultimately discarded. It’s a shame, so UNBEGUN gives the strongest residual materials a second life. In this way, they upcycle market, transport and tarpaulins into unique products. From bags to laptop sleeves, all unadulterated Amsterdam. And all with their own identity.

About the Maker
Martijn, founder of UNBEGUN, tells us his story: ‘The thought of turning something old into something new has always appealed to me. As a little boy fifteen years ago I earned my pocket money on the Amsterdam markets. That’s where I worked with market sailing for the first time. Years later, I came up with the idea of breathing new life into old market sails. The UNBEGUN adventure had begun.’

‘We think it is important that all products are produced in a fair manner. All UNBEGUN products are therefore 100% handmade and come from very near by.’

Materials With a Story
In a world full of cast-offs, there is more than enough material to upcycle. Strong, sturdy material that has withstood all kinds of storms. Used by fanatical market traders and enthusiastic transporters. Merchandise and other goods have been protected from the elements. UNBEGUN makes bags and laptop sleeves from these materials. Genuine Amsterdam products, each with their own identity.

After years of loyal service, UNBEGUN gives these residual materials a new purpose. Each piece arrives with its own story. From market to transport tarpaulin.

Handmade and locally produced
All UNBEGUN products are made entirely by hand. UNBEGUN produces them locally in Amsterdam. How? After the materials have been washed, we scrub them thoroughly again. Then we cut materials with patterns to size. Finally, the seamstresses turn it into something unique.
