Founders & Makers

Zeepfabriek Suver makes handmade soaps based on vegetable, organic oils and natural additives. Suver stands for care for the world in the broadest sense of the word.

About the Makers
Soap factory Suver was founded by Sita and Johanna Veenstra, two sisters from Fryslân. In their search for natural care products, they came across making their own natural soap, which they were both immediately enthusiastic about.

In February 2017, Sita and Johanna went on a trip to the Philippines sponsored by the Compassion organization, where they met their sponsor daughters. Temporary life in their world was impressive and moving.

This is how their passion for natural, sustainable products as well as their aim to be meaningful to the world came together. By selling the soaps from Soap Factory Suver, they allow others to benefit and that is why part of the profits are donated to charities. “This way the (soap) knife cuts both ways! This is also where our slogan #washawayfrompoverty comes from.”

The Production Process
Sita and Johanna try to purchase the ingredients for the soaps as close to home as possible (the Netherlands and Germany). They carefully choose pure, organic raw materials. The soaps are free of parabens, silicones and other synthetic additives. They are made on a small scale in our own production area using the ‘cold process’ method. The (vegetable) oils are heated as little as possible; This makes it a more sustainable method than the ‘hot process’ method. The soaps are also labeled and stored in the studio.

Sustainability
In addition to the sustainable production method, the soaps are packaged with only a jute string and a label made of FSC-certified kraft paper. Both the soaps and the packaging material are plastic-free. The printer is also environmentally certified. Finally, within Zeepfabriek Suver they try to make as many sustainable choices as possible by, for example, drinking sustainable fairshare coffee, using second-hand inventory and the energy is partly generated by solar energy!
