Annelied van Dijk
Owner
Annelied van Dijk designs and forges handmade bowls and sculptures with recycled metal. Her work combines sturdy iron with flowing, feminine shapes and takes traditional blacksmithing to a new level.
About the Maker
Annelied, the fifth generation blacksmith in her family and the first woman, discovered her passion for the trade when she made her own dining table. “The moment I felt the iron in my hands, I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.” After her training at the Dutch Guild of Art Blacksmiths, she followed her own path and started making larger art objects.
Production Process
Annelied prefers to work with recycled metal, such as old road plates. These are first fired at a high temperature in the forge to bring out their unique patina. She uses traditional techniques to shape the iron smoothly, after which it is polished or treated for outdoor use. Each object is unique and shows its technical craftsmanship.
Sustainability
Annelied uses recycled iron for her creations, which gives the material a second life. “Old metal that has lived for years comes to life when it is warmed up again.” In doing so, she contributes to reducing waste and ensures that each piece is manufactured in an environmentally conscious manner.
