Through their hotels, Bee Inc. helps wild bees by offering them a safe place in urban environments. While bees help us through pollination, Bee Inc. ensure that they get the space they desperately need, space that has often disappeared due to urbanization. Through their design hotels they are building the ‘New Wilderness’ in the city.
About the Maker
Bee Inc. was founded by Aad, who is committed to protecting the wild bee, an important but often forgotten pollinator. Of the 350 bee species in the Netherlands, only one species stings and makes honey: the honey bee. However, the wild bee, or solitary bee, is the best pollinator because it collects pollen instead of nectar. Aad’s mission is to offer these bees, who often suffer from housing problems, a safe place.

Production Process
The bee hotels from Bee Inc. are designed with both aesthetics and function in mind. The Bee Crystal can be attached to the wall, while the Bee Castle stands free in nature with its unique obelisk shape. The slanted, tapered holes ensure that the cavities remain dry, ideal for wild bees to lay eggs. The hotels are made from trees from the Amsterdam region, with which Bee Inc. strengthens local biodiversity.
Sustainability
Bee Inc. makes an important contribution to the conservation of biodiversity by creating nesting places for wild bees. In addition to the production of bee hotels, Bee Inc. is committed to education. For example, schoolchildren in Amsterdam are taught about the wild bee and their crucial role in the ecosystem. With the increasing awareness of biodiversity and the endangered bee population, Aad sees a great future for his company.
