Brouwerij Homeland
At the old Naval Yard in the heart of Amsterdam, the team at Brouwerij Homeland brings their own independent and unconventional approach to this unique location. A place where craftsmanship, quality, and flavor sensations come together in exceptional beers.
About the Maker
Bart Maes is the son of a brewer; beer has been a part of his life since childhood. After four generations, the family brewery was sold in 1975, leaving a great void in the Maes family. In 2018, together with brewer Wietse Postma, he was able to fill that void once again with Brouwerij Homeland—reviving the traditional craft with the same passion but now in a much more innovative and sustainable way.
Production Process & Sustainability
Brouwerij Homeland brews beer using malt, hops, yeast, and water. They utilize a high-tech Meura Mash Filter, which reduces water and malt usage by 30%. The spent grain is repurposed as animal feed by an organic farmer. The brewery operates entirely on electricity, all of which is generated by solar panels on their own roof. Deliveries to customers are made using an electric van, and even their forklift runs on electricity. Lastly, Brouwerij Homeland exclusively uses reusable packaging materials such as cans and stainless steel kegs.
