On the beautiful island of Texel, where nature and tradition go hand in hand, you’ll find Brouwerij Stokerij Texel. A local business that proudly crafts its products using as many local ingredients as possible. Connection with the region is key. Collaboration is essential, and they work with local suppliers whenever they can. Some of the products are even packaged by a social enterprise, contributing to a more sustainable community.
About the maker
The journey began 18 years ago, when founder Kees Groenewoud and his family moved from Utrecht to Texel. After years of working in the television industry, it was time for a fresh start. Inspired by the rich history of farms with their own distilleries, new plans emerged. Brouwerij Stokerij Texel, where by-products are transformed into delicious drinks, became a reality. At a local potato farm, leftover potatoes were turned into a Texel vodka that quickly became popular. From there, the range expanded to include Texel gin and genever.
In 2018, the brewery was established in Oosterend. Since then, the artisanal spirits and specialty beers under the brands TX and Lekker Texels have been part of the permanent production. Brouwerij Stokerij Texel is committed every day to flavor and craftsmanship. This is especially evident in their exclusive barrel-aged beers, which mature patiently in oak barrels.
The production process
The distillery is equipped with a 1,500-liter fermentation tank and several stills, allowing the creation of high-quality spirits. The brewhouse has a capacity of 1,000 liters and features multiple 2,000-liter fermentation tanks. Using local grain and Dutch malt, they brew unpasteurized beers for a wide audience. Connoisseurs are treated to small batches of exclusive barrel-aged beers.
