Since 2011, Chocolatemakers has been bringing quality chocolate to the market, putting both the well-being of cocoa farmers and environmental friendliness first. Some of their cocoa is even transported to the Netherlands from the Dominican Republic by sailing ship in a CO2-neutral manner.

About the Makers
Former fellow students Enver Loke and Rodney Nikkels started Chocolatemakers after organizing the Chocolate Festival in Amsterdam. They wanted to show how chocolate was made, but discovered that this hardly happened on a small scale in the Netherlands. After refurbishing machines themselves, they made their first bar in 2011. They now have their own factory in Amsterdam, fully powered by solar energy.

Production Process
Chocolate makers buy cocoa beans directly from small cooperatives, avoiding corruption and paying a fair price. Their chocolate is produced entirely in their own factory, from bean to bar. They only use organic cocoa beans and have designed machines to make their production process more efficient. Now, they even sell these machines to other starting chocolate makers.

Sustainability
Chocolatemakers’ products are completely CO2 neutral. The company supports projects that combat deforestation, such as their Gorilla Bar, which promotes the protection of mountain gorillas in Congo. In addition, they work exclusively with organically grown cocoa beans, which ensures long-term fertility of the agricultural land and better conditions for the farmers.
