DamPlank, designed by Veroon Coesel, is inspired by her Amsterdam grandmother’s eighty-year-old cutting board. The functional design with three raised edges and handles makes the shelf ideal for the kitchen, but also useful as a tray for the table or in the garden.

About the Maker
Veroon Coesel inherited her grandmother’s cutting board and used it every day. When she couldn’t find comparable planks, she decided to design the DamPlank herself. “I wanted to give my children the same board when they left home, but they weren’t for sale anywhere,” says Coesel. This led to the production of the DamPlank, which she initially produced together with Timmerfabriek Visser in Zaandam.

Production Process
The DamPlank is made of steamed beech wood, which is carefully sawn to ensure maximum stability. After the planks are assembled in the factory, Coesel sands each plank by hand and treats it several times with grapeseed oil. The assembly is carried out in collaboration with the prison in Alphen aan de Rijn.

Sustainability
The DamPlank is durable in both material and design. Beech wood is odorless, antibacterial, and perfect for everyday use in the kitchen. “The board is certainly durable, it will last a lifetime or even more than that, as my grandmother’s old cutting board shows.”
