Sarah Barkmeijer
Founder
Lady Fruitcake makes artisanal cakes, bars and catering products based on nuts, seeds, fruit and vegetables.
About the maker
When asked where exactly her enthusiasm for making sustainable, plant-based pastries comes from, Sarah can only give one answer: “It suits who I am. In the plant-based kitchen with its inexhaustible possibilities, I can express my creativity and my love for craftsmanship. lost a lot.”
In 2014, in addition to her work as an artist and workshop teacher, Sarah started making plant-based cakes for the health food store Krits in Amsterdam, where she worked as a saleswoman. Encouraged by the enthusiastic responses from customers, she took the step to start a small production kitchen in 2016. When health food store Krits was transformed into Ekoplaza Zijlstraat, she was given the opportunity to grow within Ekoplaza into a beautiful organically certified company.
Sustainability & Production Process
Lady Fruitcake now has their plant-based cakes produced by the organic, gluten-free bakery Liberaire, but Sarah remains closely involved in the production and continues to strive for the best results in taste and texture. In her own kitchen she develops new nourishing pastries, snacks, desserts and more. “Nature has endless things to offer and that makes us very happy. We work with plant-based and biological raw materials. This is necessary to keep our earth healthy.” Lady Fruitcake products are made from organic nuts, seeds, fruit and vegetables. Unrefined, natural and minimally sweetened, gluten-free and full of vital raw materials and fibers.
