Marije Geursen is a jewelry designer and goldsmith who designs and makes unique jewelry in her Amsterdam studio. With almost 20 years of experience, she makes custom jewelry and designs for companies and magazines. Her work is inspired by personal stories and the need to translate feelings into meaningful designs.
About the Maker
Marije discovered her passion for making art at a young age during a project week at school. After technical training in Schoonhoven and further training at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, she founded her goldsmith’s studio. She always looks for the best form to represent an idea, whether it concerns a personal piece of jewelry or an assignment for a company.
Production Process
Marije uses different materials for her jewelry, including gold, silver, porcelain and other unique elements. Every design starts with a careful process of selection and creation. Where necessary, parts are outsourced to a foundry in the Netherlands, but Marije ensures that everything is finished with care and craftsmanship. “Everything still goes through my fingers to assemble or finish.”
Sustainability
The goldsmith’s craft is inherently sustainable, as jewelry lasts a lifetime. Marije purchases Fair Gold wherever possible and encourages customers to reuse old jewelry. She has introduced the hashtags #JewelryBoxMining and #MijnGoudMijn to inspire customers to melt down and reuse old jewelry. This creates jewelry with extra meaning and reduces the need for new material.
