Mirjam Nuver
Owner
Mirjam Nuver has been a leading hat designer for more than 30 years, known for her small-scale, high-quality “limited editions.” She designs for all occasions, from everyday use to special events. Her multifunctional and original designs have been sold from her shop and studio in the heart of Amsterdam since 2013.
About the maker
Mirjam Nuver has a background in graphic design, having studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Groningen. Her passion for hats emerged in the 1980s, inspired by her mother, who was a hat milliner. During her graduation project in 1985, Mirjam designed a promotional campaign for her mother’s hat shop and created some hats to illustrate the project. Her first designs were unique pieces, more suitable for shows than for everyday use. Through her work in her mother’s shop and direct contact with customers, she learned the importance of wearability and functionality, which led to her first series collection in 1992.
Production Process & Sustainability
Mirjam Nuver’s designs are produced entirely in-house, from the very beginning of her brand. She uses classic materials such as felt, sisal and straw, but applies modern and innovative making techniques that are far from traditional. Many of her models are designed and manufactured by folding, cutting, wrinkling and tearing, resulting in a unique, graphic look. Although she sometimes collaborates with other designers and embraces new technologies such as 3D printing, her focus remains on creating sustainable and high-quality products. Each design is designed with long-term use in mind, allowing the wearer to customize and personalize his or her hat to their liking.
