Nadine Kieft
Jewelry designer
Nadine Kieft Jewelry is the down to earth jewelry label that shapes love into artisanal, unique pieces tailored to the person. In their own studio they make wedding rings, engagement rings, ash jewelry, necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
About the Maker
It was a leap of faith when Nadine Kieft decided to open her own studio in 2007. It was a step that had been in the making for years, from the moment she chose jewelry design as a profession. On holiday in Berlin she met a goldsmith who worked from home and sold jewelry in Japan, among other things. That inspired Nadine; she could work independently and create what she really liked. Her previous plan to become a journalist was put aside and she enrolled at the Vocational School for Goldsmiths. Although she then had the ambition to work for herself, she immediately needed a job after graduating and started working at Gem Kingdom, an Amsterdam jewelry company. Three years later, with experience, a dose of self-confidence and a little more financial security, she started her own company: Nadine Kieft Jewelry.
Production Process & Sustainability
Just like the Berlin goldsmith, Nadine also started in her own living room, but she now has a beautiful studio in Amsterdam East. You can come by appointment to view the collection or discuss a new design. In the studio you can also see the blacksmiths working on the jewelry. The team works on custom assignments and its own collections. The designs are a mix of art, fashion and nature. Cool, edgy, traditional, refined and timeless. Nadine Kieft only works with solid 14 and 18 carat gold, so that the jewelry can be passed on from generation to generation.
Gold is mainly used, often Fairtrade or recycled. The gold left over during the making process is collected in a drawer in the workbench. To ensure that different types of metal do not mix, each workbench is reserved for one type of metal. They melt down the large pieces themselves and hand in the gold filings that are mixed with small pieces of dirt to a recycling company that cleans it, melts it and turns it into gold plate and wire again.
