Esther Mutsaers
Founder
NUTT Amsterdam designs and constructs unique fashion items in the form of artistic blazers. Each piece transformed from two discarded garments. NUTT Blazers are unique in every way: shape, fabric, color and size. The only new material added is matching thread.
About the Maker
The Production Process
Esther asks all around her – on the street, on her website and via social media – if people would like to donate the clothes they no longer wear to her instead of putting them in the clothing waste bin. The clothing is sorted according to good raw materials and recycled into cool NUTT Blazers.
Esther then combines the raw materials by designing on a mannequin. “That’s called moulding. This creates a unique, sustainable NUTT Blazer, which always consists of two discarded garments. I come up with the design and then carefully take the garments apart and then expertly sew them back together using the correct techniques.” For example, a trouser leg becomes a sleeve, a blouse a blouse-blazer or pajama trousers a back piece. “As long as the textile industry is not 100% circular, NUTT exists!”
