Ore Design

Ore Design focuses on accessories and tools for a good and pure life. The collection includes kitchen accessories such as nutcrackers, openers, and cheese knives. They also create interior accessories, including a series of candlesticks in various designs, as well as small side tables and reading lamps.

About the makers
Mannie Klijn Velderman and Frans Kortenhorst use their knowledge and craftsmanship to design products made to be used and loved. Frans is a developer in Mechanical Engineering and Innovation. Mannie is an Industrial Photographer and Graphic Designer. Ore Design was born out of a combination of factors: a love for quality tools and a passion for food. With The Ore Nutcracker—a nutcracker that cracks the shell but leaves the nut intact—Mannie and Frans aim to express these values.

They also respond to new home-living needs by creating small furniture, such as The Ore Sidetable. Living in a smaller space or cohabiting is more enjoyable when you can find the right accessories. For example, they designed a wireless reading lamp to create the perfect spot in a focused pool of light.

The Production Process & Sustainability
It always starts with an idea that Mannie and Frans have, after which they sketch a design and develop it into a prototype. They partly do the production themselves and manufacturing companies in the region are also engaged. “We have our own machines and workshops for processing wood and metal. We have some parts cut from metal elsewhere, coated, drummed or polished. We have our own photo studio facilities for photography and video recording.”

Ore Design products are made from fully recyclable materials, including wood from our own construction (Dutch oak) and metal. “We deliver a durable, solid product that will last for generations and can be repaired.”
