At SA Design, it’s all about attention. In their studio by the Vinkeveense Plassen, Nina and Sofía Andrea create handmade bags and accessories – sustainable and stylish, made to last for years. Each design is handcrafted and finished with care.
About the Makers
Mother Nina and daughter Sofía Andrea are the creative team behind SA Design. Their Dutch-Spanish roots are evident in everything they create: a combination of craftsmanship, skill, and attention to detail. The name SA Design refers to Sofía’s initials, but also signifies the beginning of a special story.
Their love for the craft traces back to Nina’s Spanish grandmother, who was a seamstress in Madrid. From her, Nina learned the trade. “Simply by doing it together a lot, under her watchful eye.” Daughter Sofía quickly developed a great passion for creativity, and thus SA Design was founded in 2018 – the perfect way to combine Spain, the Netherlands, and their passion for creativity.
Production Process & Sustainability
All bags and accessories from SA Design are handmade in the studio in Vinkeveen. They exclusively use vegetable-tanned leather from Spain and Italy. Their mission: to make slow fashion the new norm – with fair, stylish, and sustainable bags, made right here in the Netherlands.
This means products are made to order, using quality materials and under good conditions. They even create some of their packaging materials themselves – from leftover leather and other surplus materials. This way, their waste bin remains small, and their commitment is significant.
Studio
In their beautiful studio on the dock by the water of the Vinkeveense Plassen, Nina also offers small-scale workshops. Participants can make a bag or notebook out of leather, which is a unique experience, as you can discover how much time and concentration goes into what seems like a simple bag – and how special it is to create something tangible with your own hands.
