About the Makers
Saru Soda was founded in 2015 by Leslie Dronkers and Sjoerd Spoelstra, two chefs. “Mass production and industrialization have taken so many shortcuts that the taste and originality of soft drinks was affected, so we wanted to do something about that.” Together with a specialized team, they bring all the experience from their kitchens to raise the bar. By working with whole and natural products, soda regains the taste it was once intended to have.
Production Process & Sustainability
At Saru Soda, sustainability is not a choice, but a condition. The artisanal syrups are made with organic cane sugar and whole ingredients from the best suppliers. All ingredients are of organic origin or carefully picked from the wild. All sodas are made with 100% solar energy and transportation is often done electrically.
Local tap water means that soft drinks can be served with post-mix or a sparkling water tap without transporting a large portion of water. Due to this, Saru Soda has entered into partnerships with Zereau Drinks, Robinetto (BE) and van Duinen catering service, among others. Even the waste is not lost. For example, they make eau-de-vie (alcoholic drink) from the remains of quince and they are working on a biogasifier.
