Wijngaard De Wolfshaar makes delicious wine from the Twente countryside. The family business produces beautiful wines with great dedication and pleasure.
About the Makers
In 2016, the Bekhuis family decided to broaden the focus within their agricultural company to include viticulture. After the necessary preparation time, the first grape vines were planted in 2019. With the Wolfshaarsweg that runs along the vineyard, the name of the vineyard was quickly found. Rob: “The vineyard offers me and my family the opportunity to broaden our knowledge, combine it with craftsmanship and work on an honest, artisanal product that people enjoy.”
Production Process
At Wijngaard De Wolfshaar everything revolves around craftsmanship, quality and respect for nature. They grow five grape varieties with more than 3,000 plants. These are some better-known varieties such as the Solaris and Johanniter grape, but also younger grape varieties such as the Cabernet Cortis. “Our grape varieties thrive in places with fewer hours of sunshine. This is perfect for producing wine on Dutch soil.”
Preference is given to manual harvesting. “This allows us to immediately check the quality of the grapes during picking and select only the best grapes for our wines.” After harvest, the grapes are quickly taken to the winery, where they are carefully processed. We work closely with winemakers from Neerlands Wijnmakerij in Bentelo. “Depending on the wine, we mature it in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels. After maturing, the wine is carefully filtered and bottled. We ensure that this process takes place with the utmost hygiene to guarantee the quality of the wine.” Each bottle is then labeled and checked before being shipped to customers.
Sustainability
The entire production process of Wijngaard de Wolfshaar is focused on sustainability. From cultivation – where they use minimal crop protection products – to energy-efficient work in the winery and mechanical weed control in the vineyard. They continue to innovate to further reduce their ecological footprint. “Nature presents us with challenges, but with conscious choices we try to work with the smallest possible ecological footprint. We believe that the land forms the basis for a good product. That is why we do everything we can to cherish and protect it, so that we can make wines that are not only of high quality, but also contribute to a more sustainable future.”
'Each bottle tells a story of care, passion and respect for nature.'
