Zuivere Koffie is the world’s first coffee roasting company in prison. Zuivere Koffie offers motivated (former) prisoners a second chance in life by learning a trade and guidance towards paid work.

About the maker(s)
Zuivere Koffie was founded by Jemuel Lampe, who was in contact with the police at a young age. However, Jemuel turned out to have a lot to offer. An enormous sense of taste and knowledge of coffee gave him a second chance in life. He grabbed this with both hands and became a well-known coffee entrepreneur. With Zuivere Koffie he has the mission to reduce recidivism and offer people a second chance in life.

Through the collaboration with the Judicial Institutions Agency, the world’s first coffee roasting facility was opened in prison. This is where the Pure Coffee Reintegration Model emerged. High-quality products are made here and at the same time detainees are trained and learn new skills that help them find a paid job upon release. Zuivere Koffie supplies to offices, catering and consumers via its website, but they also have two small coffee shops in Amsterdam, where the baristas always have a story.

The production process & sustainability
Zuivere Koffie’s coffee roasting facility is climate positive. In this energy regenerative production facility in the prison in Zaandam, 70 motivated detainees work on the beautiful products of Zuivere Koffie. Zuivere Koffie only works with high-quality products for which they pay a fair price. They produce their products with a minimal footprint. “We opt for the most sustainable solution in everything, where possible.” They are PSO30+ certified, making them a popular partner for parties that want to implement Social Return on Investment. High quality, minimal footprint, maximum impact. That’s what they call end-to-end impact at Zuivere Koffie.
