Slagerij Woorts is one of Amsterdam Made’s sponsors and thus helps the smaller makers from the region, who are now where Slagerij Woorts once started.
“I think everyone deserves a chance if he or she has nice and good ideas.”
Slagerij Woorts opened the doors of the store on Maasstraat in 1964. From the beginning, beef sausage and filet americain have been the butcher’s most popular products. For years, Woorts has been producing this at the back of the butcher’s shop, in the same room where the meat for the store was boned. With the introduction of new, stricter hygiene rules, the company was forced to move the production of their sausage and filet americain to a larger location in 1989. It became Abcoude, close to Amsterdam. The butcher’s shop has now been taken over, but in Abcoude Woorts still makes a large quantity of beef sausage and filet americain every week, which is supplied to various wholesalers and supermarkets.
Slagerij Woorts is BRC certified and many of the products have the Beter Leven quality mark with two stars or the Bio Quality Mark with three stars, which they are of course very proud of.
The best tip for starting makers from Peter Woorts: “Stay very close to yourself. You can remember that and you can sell that.”
Slagerij Woorts’ motto: “What is good, is good.”
